Summary:

The Article deals with two dimensions of human rights in the external relations of the European Community and the European Union. After stipulating the relation of the European Community to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms the emphasis is being laid on interaction of these legal systems taking into account further possible developments. Subsequently the Article focuses on advancing of the human rights in the external relations of the European Community and the European Union and provides a critical view on the lawfulness of legal instruments which have been applied so far.
